Training Tip #4

Training tip number four,  is when teaching your dog a trick, don't make them do it. So for example When teaching your dog to sit, don't say sit and push their butt to the ground, and then give them the treat. Because then they think "Oh I just have to let them push my butt down  and they'll give me a treat, way too easy!". So don't let them get away with doing nothing, they need to TRY.

Dog Training Tip #3

Don't over treat them! PLEASE don't give your dog too many treats because in between those two meals you can fit in a lot of snacks, so don't give them a lot of snack breaks and only give them 5-10 treats per training session. This may seem like an extensive measurement but it doesn't matter how big or small that dog is, you don't want them getting obese!

How to adopt an older dog - Part One

Have you decided to adopt an older dog? Well congrats! Adopting an older dog is really good! Especially if rescuing! When rescuing you feel good, because not only have you found a new BFF, but also you are saving a dog from a past life. Even if trained to fight or abused, dogs are special because they have the ability to bounce back from even the worst of situations. Even if ou are not adopt from a shelter there are many benefits of adopting an older dog, such as:
  • Easier to train
  • Less hyper
  • Still adorable
  • Less likely to do more daring things (ex: chew the house)
  • Less whining (but not with Sherman)
  • Good Snuggle Buddies!
While writing this, Sherman has been laying next to me, or more correctly him tolerating me lying on his bed (😂). And no this is not me copying down what someone else said, these are the qualities I have found in many older dogs! Plus older dogs are much more tolerant!

Dog Training Tip #2

Don't get FRUSTRATED. Just because Fido can't roll over or sit AND stay doesn't mean you are a bad trainer or they are a horrible dog. Dogs know your intentions and how you are feeling, so if you are feeling stressed, they are probably too. so just stay cool, calm and collected and talk with a reassuring voice. Because dogs think of you as the Alpha, you need to be confident, because if their almighty leader is worried, they think they should be worried as well.
A frustrated dog will just walk away
